Introducing my All Star: Declan

My son, Declan is a future NHL goalie. No bias or small expectations there!

Yesterday, Declan played goalie for the North York Hockey League's Minor Atom All Star game. Declan plays goalie for St. Edwards' in House League and for the North York Knights in Select. Three goalies were chosen for the Tier II team and two for the Tier III team and he was the only one who didn't get scored on. Declan's team went on to win the game 4 - 2. Each player received a gorgeous medal.

On February 10, Declan and I attended our first Toronto Marlies game. It was Goalie Night and I thought it would be fun. I had heard that if you wore some goalie equipment that you could win free tickets to another game. Not only did Declan win those, but he was chosen as the Fan of the Game and awarded Justin Pogge's game used, signed stick. For those of you who don't know who Justin Pogge is (he's bringing sexy back!) ... he was the goalie for Canada's 2006 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship Team and is now a top prospect for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

We have seen five Marlies games this season and they have won every game we attended. Erik Westrum joked that we need to attend every game - we are considering becoming season ticket holders.

I am sad to see Declan's hockey season end, thank goodness the Leafs made the playoffs... NOT!

Luckily Declan's playing goalie in his lacrosse game tomorrow - that will keep us both out of trouble for awhile....

  2. Lacrosse is almost too fast of a game to knit to - but I love it!
Congrats to Declan - for his goal-tending acumen & on winning the stick.
